It’s really hard to get bored in Lac de Maine Park. The site is a true paradise for cyclists, walkers and other sports enthusiasts.

Walk along the main loop

Follow the main loop, which is around 5.5 km long and goes all the way round Lac de Maine. The flat terrain is easy on your calves and offers a variety of views. Allow around 1 hour 40 minutes for this easy, family-friendly walk.

Please also note that from the lake, you can link up with the region’s cycle routes, including sections close to the ‘La Loire à Vélo’ route.

Trails for team spirit

Fancy giving your logical thinking a workout? Try the superb orienteering trails. There’s something for everyone, from families to seasoned athletes!

Our tips: download the detailed map of the courses from the city’s website or check the map before leaving Angers city centre. Always stay on the marked trails so as not to disturb other users.

The Lac de Maine leisure park offers a vibrant water sports centre centred around its lake.

A designated and supervised swimming area

The sandy beach and fresh water create a refreshing atmosphere on hot days. Please note, however, that swimming may be temporarily suspended depending on water quality, which is regularly analysed by the health authorities.

During the summer months, a designated swimming area is set up and supervised at specific times (usually from the afternoon until early evening). A flag indicates that supervision is in place.

Water sports and on-site hire

Around the lake, several recognised organisations offer a variety of water sports:

  • Sailing and windsurfing: through local clubs such as NDC Voile Angers.
  • Canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding: with equipment hire and supervision provided by leading organisations such as the Canoë Kayak Club Angers (CKCA).

Our safety advice

When taking part in water sports or open-water swimming (permitted in specific areas or through a club), always wear a brightly coloured swimming cap and use a buoy to signal your presence. Strictly adhere to the designated sailing areas so as not to obstruct other vessels (sailboats, rowing boats) and to ensure you are visible.

Important: for your safety, swimming is strictly prohibited outside the marked area of the lake and outside supervised hours!

Make the most of the park: play areas and family relaxation spots

Explore the vast open spaces of this site and feel the fresh grass beneath your feet! Lake Maine is the perfect spot for a day of outdoor leisure.

Leisure activities for young and old

Spacious lawns are perfect for relaxing. The park features children’s play areas and beach volleyball courts, as well as a permanent disc golf course!

Equestrian activities are also available nearby, ideal for young riders and families keen to try a ride or a taster session.

Our tip: don’t forget your rackets, ball or frisbee to make the most of the space.

A gourmet break in the open air

For lunch, settle down at one of the cosy picnic areas dotted around the park or enjoy the refreshment bar/snack bar situated opposite the beach.

Discover a rich and unspoilt ecosystem

Around Lake Maine, nature flourishes in wetlands and lush green banks, creating a remarkable diversity of natural habitats. The site is classified as a Natural Area of Ecological, Fauna and Flora (ZNIEFF), and forms part of the extended Natura 2000 area covering the Lower Anjou Valleys and the lower reaches of the Mayenne Valley, which helps to protect numerous species.

Exceptional biodiversity

Over several years, around 235 species of birds have been recorded around the lake, making it a prime spot for birdwatching. Among the animals that can be seen depending on the season:

  • The great cormorant and the grey heron, often seen near the water.
  • Migratory species, such as various ducks and waders, overwinter here or stop over during their migration.
  • Other birds and passerines bear witness to the site’s rich biodiversity.

Nature walks and birdwatching

Nature activities and birdwatching outings are regularly organised by local organisations such as LPO Anjou or partner organisations, particularly at certain times of the year (often requiring registration). They allow you to discover this natural wealth to the full!

Enjoy the excitement all year round: unmissable events

Beyond the activities and the peaceful setting it offers, the events at Lac de Maine make it a great venue for festive gatherings.

Major events

Cheer on the athletes at the Angers Triathlon or take part in the ‘Lac en Fête’ festivities. The site is also a prime venue for the Fête de la Nature.

balmy summer evenings

In summer, enjoy the open-air cinema screenings. These evenings form part of the packed ‘Un été à Angers’ programme. The atmosphere under the stars is truly extraordinary!
