Here are 6 of our favourite open-air cafés in Angers, all less than 30 minutes from our hotel in Angers Le Château des Forges.
Île Saint-Aubin is a little slice of nature in Angers that’s not to be missed. Getting there couldn’t be more enjoyable: a ferry takes you across the river, on foot or by bike, for a gentle adventure with the children.
Once on the other side, a stop at the Port de l’Île open-air café is a must. On the menu: salads, burgers and delicious local produce in a relaxed atmosphere.
Perfect for taking a breather, savouring the food… and making the most of the moment!
Chemin Bas d’Épinard, 49000 Angers – open from the Easter holidays until the All Saints’ Day holidays, from 12 noon to 9.30 pm – just 3 minutes from the Château des Forges
Head to the banks of the Mayenne for a charming and cheerful open-air café in Angers.
Here, you’re welcomed with a smile and treated to local cuisine, tastefully reimagined. It’s delicious, generous, and brimming with the flavour of the region.

Situated on the banks of the Loire, this Angers-style open-air café offers a splendid view of the city with its château as a backdrop. Even when it’s busy, don’t panic: there’s always space on the large lawns. Settle in, relax, and enjoy.
At the bar, you’ll find sharing platters, local produce and snacks… all in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.

Fancy recapturing the atmosphere of Le Héron Carré, but a little further south? Good news: this open-air café, run by the same team, welcomes you to Ponts-de-Cé in an atmosphere that’s just as cool and relaxed.
Right next door, the Ponts-de-Cé swimming pool is just the place for a well-deserved dip. Perfect for cooling off before or after a drink on the terrace, but only in summer, so you might as well make the most of it!

Are you looking for somewhere to have lunch in the open air on the banks of the Loire? La Guinguette des Tourbillons ticks all the boxes!
With its large terrace and relaxed atmosphere, this open-air café in Angers is the perfect spot for a family break. Children can play nearby whilst their parents enjoy the moment.
After lunch, head off for a stroll along the harbour or on the paths by the water’s edge.

On Friday evenings, head to Bellevigne-en-Layon for an evening with a distinct Anjou flavour.
Here, it’s all about the wine bar: platters to share, fine local wines and a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside. Settle down at the large wooden tables, on the terrace or in the shade, and savour the moment.
Fancy a bit of a walk? The hiking trails right next door are perfect for a short stroll before or after your aperitif.
